Okay, so I bought a bunch of maxlife about two months ago for my toyota camry. I recently changed my oil from PP to PYB, I was considering running it in my camry. I don't have any problems with my engine, no leaks and currently no oil burn off. Not sure if I should run it or not. I have a couple of cases PYB and Formula Shell. What should I do??? My concern is the not meeting energy conserving that my manual calls for. Will I noticed a MPG difference.

What grades are the Pennzoil and Shell? If they are 5w-30 or 10w-30 then you may see a minor increase in your mileage because the Maxlife is thicker when hot compared to the same grades of the other two.Pennzoil 5w-30 and 10w-30 meet Energy Conserving specs.

You'll actually be going to a thinner 30 wt. so you might actually see a small increase in your mileage. Nothing monumental but a little bit. The Pennzoil 5w-30 will work great for you as will the 10w-30 and the Shell.

What about swelling seals. Could this be a problem on a car that doesn't have issues with this. Like blowing out seals?

The only need for an oil like Maxlife is if you have a leaking seal or something such as that. If you don't have that issue the Pennzoil will work just fine.

Not strictly true. Even if you don't have those issues, maxlife is still a top-notch oil.

bfrey64,

I think your best option is to check your mileage real time and compare it to what your Camry's mileage should be. Like the others have said if your using 5W-30 then a slight increase should show up. When I had my 89' Camry I used as a standard 10W-30 Mobil 1 and still achieved excellent MPG.

Maxlife is one of the best oil's the average consumer can get. Increased tbn, add pack, lower noack, the list goes on. I'll take Maxlife over synpower.

There is no problem with using oil thicker or thinner than the spec. Gas mileage may be slightly affected but driving condition would negate all that. People hit traffic lights, traffic jam, intersection, and errand differently each day. Oil grade aren't going to be an issue. It only comes into play when one tries to maximize efficiency for long trip. I use Mobil 1 0W20 for trip from VA to Key West or El Paso. With tire inflation at the maximum pressure, thinnest synthetic oil grade, a super clean car both in and out, and a gentle right foot I can really make my gas last. It's not that essential on the way to Key West as there are tons of cheap gas along I-95 and other detour I take. For the El Paso run, every drop counts as there are sections of roads where there is no gas station for over a 100 miles stretch. I keep my Accord half tank full and my Corolla 3/4 full for such stretch. In addition, I carry a 3 gallons jerry can just in case.

Great oil. This is a no brainer.

We get to deep at times into oil specifications. I would venture to say you will not see any difference in performance of any off the shelf oil within 0w-20 to 5w-30 grades and you might even through in the 10w-30. I have ran so many different oils, grades etc I never could track a mileage variable down to the oil or grade...and I'm overly concision of my mileage keeping up with every tank. I get the exact same variables using the same oil/grade back to back as I do if I use a different oil/grade.

Use whichever oil you listed with confidence as they are all outstanding oils !!
