What no one can answer is if we assume the wear levels continue at the same rate over the life of the car how many miles will that engine go before it ceases to exist? Either blows entirely or uses more then one quart of oil in 1000 miles.

That is the issue and most probably well beyond the rest of the parts surrounding and holding the engine in place.

With a car like mine though, I plan on keeping it a very long time, if I don't, it would only be to get a newer f-body or Corvette. So it's a keeper, and I wouldn't mind upgrading the parts around the engine in order to keep it running a very long time. It's not as if I'm trying to prolong the life of a Yugo here, I'm trying to keep a car which I feel has an important history, and is very fun to drive.

One thing that concerns me; if you are using Auto-RX while getting analysis done, wouldn't that elevate wear readings and slew other readings, as solids(presumably containing wear particles placed there over 60k miles) are dissolved.

In my case I'm not having the oil sampled which ran with the Auto-rx, but the oil change after that. I only ran the Auto-rx for 600 miles or so anyways, so there is no point taking a sample of that oil.

Uh, Oh!

Jake, the little Red Farmall, is not going to be happy with me.

Oh well, I'll blame it on Patman!

Yes, I got an email a few minutes ago, and he says the SL formulation contains no moly (and obviously the SJ doesn't either!)

Patman,
I have a sister that lives in Montreal and she drives a 01 Honda. She uses Petro Canada 5W40 Duron XL Syn. all year around. It is about $62CDN a case of 12. She used it in her previous auto and had no problems.

Patman, there is definitely no Moly in Maxlife? Doesn't matter to me but good to know.

It looks like that maxlife held up well for 2400 miles. Do you think the wear is too high or normal?

Considering the number of full throttle runs on that oil interval, I'd say the wear wasn't too bad. But it should go down after my Auto-rx treatment, and I'm sure that Schaeffers will show better results too. Stay tuned!
