Funny last July we were able to go to Chicago RT $350.30, 3 people. Applied for chase united explorer, $250 statement credit. Bags were free for 2, also RT. We didn't use the lounge passes as we had 2 passes and 3 people. Anyway I just called to cxl before I get charged the $95 annual fee.
The woman after attempting to save the acct (they can waive fee but none of the benefits), she said what would you like to do with the $21,200 credit line? Transfer to another card?
I say hmmm...unlikely I would use it, but how about transfer it to the Amazon Prime CC. She says I will do that. It doesn't show online yet, so I called the 800# and found I have $31,700 credit available
I do remind myself with my newfound knowledge. Unsecured debt, which is not paid back, is in fact ultimately secured, by the courts.

4.7% over spot isn’t bad as b&m will charge more, and if you can get that premium back on the cc…
the issue is sales tax…
If I drive to Delaware and buy there’s no tax…

Yep, that well know finance guy (I guess we can't name him) seems to hate credit cards and is quite proud of the fact that he hasn't used one in yrs. I'm with the above posters - why not? Pay the bill in full each month and get rewarded for it - seems like a no brainer.

I told myself never again. I did eventually get the $200 for opening an Amex and spending $1000 in 90 days. On the phone they told me I don’t qualify and nothing they can do. I was so angry I said this isn’t worth my time (in the meantime yet another pre approved same offer came get $200 when you spend $1000).
2 mos later a manual entry was made for $200.
I will always use 5% gas and 5% rotating but I want no more credit cards for premiums. And as a general rule take the 2% on everything when there isn’t anything higher.

amazon credit card for 5% back on amazon makes a big difference as well.
i never swipe my debit card. all bills that don’t have a credit card fee go to my AMEX and others are autopay from the bank account. had my amex for 4 months and i’m over $225 in rewards points. not a massive amount but every bit helps. no reason not to use credit cards. i pay them off twice a month and NEVER carry a balance. the only debt in my life is my home.

That would be great for a family or anyone who spends $$$$ on groceries- and who doesn’t?
Maybe it comes out a wash relative to us. Getting more on “everything else” - retired couple who uses cards for everything except cash discount.

Fidelity card for everything except restaurants and gas and Costco-,those 3 Costco card naturally

it’s crazy how fast rewards stack up when the weekly trip to the grocery store is $150-200 depending on if we need toilet paper, laundry detergent, paper towels etc.
Most grocery earnings don't apply outside of literal grocery stores...works for some but if you shop at a super Walmart or super Target then it's no gain. Pretty sure the clubs are exempt too.

I would never use a debit card at a store or especially a gas station. With a compromised card reader, if someone gets ahold of your debit account, it is much harder, if at all, to get your money back.
I have a separate card I use at gas stations and fast food, it's a sacrificial card so if it gets compromised, I don't have to re-enter new card credentials into all the autopay accounts.
Tip: I covered my name and CC #'s on the card with thin black tape so that a cashier cannot take a picture of it in a drive-through.
You guys are really optimizing CC use, and it's time for me to upgrade, if you were to start from scratch, what combo would you use?
I'm thinking of adding these to the mix:
- Amazon card due to the 5% cash back.
- Lowes card 5% discount.
