We all know this is a fantastic oil, but did you know on their MSDS sheets, the regular Max Life actually has a higher TBN than the Synthetic counterpart? 8.7 vs 8.3!

That makes regular/next gen Max Life a fantastic value. Just thought I'd pass this on.

I found this helpful for comparing Valvoline oils.

It also shows the slightly different addpack for the NAPA Synthetic 10w-30 in comparison to Synpower 5w30. NAPA looks to be sodium/calcium detergent w/ slight moly vs the Synpower mainly calcium w/ no moly. Moly in the NAPA possibly leftovers from previous oil not fully drained? Things look different enough (at least in the SM iteration) that NAPA is not just a dumbed down addpack version of Synpower or the NAPA sample was tainted w/ sodium as well. In any case the NAPA run was 15% longer and the wear looks slightly better. Go figure.

However, at 5k, the Maxlife NG looks to be producing slightly better results than either of it's synthetic SM counterparts.

Truthfully though, I don't know if all the above wear results fall into statistical equality. I'm inclined to believe that perhaps they do.
