Mastercraft/Walmart Issues

So 3 days ago we got new tires for the Rav4. Got a good price for mastercrafts from Walmart and had them shipped to store and installed there.

Our first time on the interstate we knew they weren’t right, lots of “hopping” vibration at 60+. So we went back to the store to get them rebalanced/checked. They rebalanced them but there was no change. Today I drove to discount tire and had them checked with a road force balancer. 3 out of 4 tires scored from 38-70. Way outside of normal range (<30). Discount tire doesn’t deal in mastercraft so they wouldn’t help me with the warranty. I called Walmart and asked if they would take the tires back or warranty them for me. They said “no, take it up with mastercraft”. What a nightmare.

Edit: They were purchased from Walmart through Walmart.com, not someone else using Walmart.com as a marketplace. They should take them back. The app is showing they are return eligible even if used.

Call Masterkraft / Goodyear if you don't get anywhere calling walmart.

Did Discount tire give you anything re the road force balance. This is my issue with them. I had a very similar issue as your having with General tires bought elsewhere - this is how I learned about Road Force balance. I paid Discount for the balance - which is still cheap like $20 a tire, and they won't put anything in writing. Fortunately they were able to help me with those tires as they were Continental which Discount does have a relationship with I guess.

This is why I never purchase tires through Walmart. I know I'll get flak but. My parents repeatedly purchased tires from Walmart and every year they drove up from Phoenix they had a tire blow out. Since then they've bought from discount tire without any issues. Are there any milage caps/ or time or paperwork to return them to the manufacturer?

They did let me take a picture of the readout. But wouldn’t give me a physical copy.

Here is the tire replacement policy from WalMart's website. I doubt that you will have any problems when you show them this in writing. If they push back, speak with the senior store Manager in person, not the Auto Center Manager.

HOW ARE REPLACEMENT CHARGES CALCULATED?

If your tire is defective and you have complied with the terms and conditions of this Limited Warranty, Walmart will provide a free replacement tire (except for the tire installation cost and applicable taxes and government-mandated charges) during the first 25% of usable tread or one (1) year, whichever comes first. Tires that are worn beyond the first 25% of usable tread or are over one (1) year from the date of purchase, will be replaced on a pro-rata basis with comparable new tires based on tread depth remaining, in the form of a Walmart tire credit. Usable tread depth is defined as the depth of the tread down to the final 2/32nds of an inch. The last 2/32nds is not considered usable tread. In addition to the difference between the cost of the replacement tire and the credit amount, you pay the tire installation cost and applicable taxes and government-mandated charges. FOR EXAMPLE, if your tire is 1/2 worn at the time your tire is deemed defective, you would receive a credit of half the current price of that tire toward the current price of a new or replacement tire. If the price for a comparable tire is $120, you will pay $60 plus any additional charges such as tire installation cost and any other applicable taxes and fees.

HOW DO I MAKE A CLAIM UNDER THIS LIMITED WARRANTY?

When making a claim under the terms of this Limited Warranty, you must present your tires and the vehicle on which the tires were used to your local Walmart ACC for inspection. To find the location of the nearest Walmart that can process the replacement request, visit our website at http://www.walmart.com and click on “My Local Store” or call 800-925-6278. You must present your original invoice and your Walmart installation record.
