Master pro vs Toyota reman rack and pinion

The Toyota reman rack and pinion only has a one year warranty (I'm not even sure Toyota is the one who actually remanufactures them).
The O'Reilly's Master pro (also reman) has a "limited lifetime" warranty and will be significantly cheaper because of my mechanic friend's discount.
I don't want to have to do this twice and I haven't heard the best things about the Master pro but I figured if they're constantly junk they probably wouldn't sell any...
Considering the warranties, what do you think?

MasterPro is just getting it from a Cardone-esque supplier

Granted, no idea who Toyota uses but I have to believe they have higher standards than O'Reilly's house brand. To be clear, I actually like MasterPro new stuff but reman in a "value" brand is sketchy

Please update if you find concrete info as I'm stating a lot of assumptions

I agree. *I* think you're always better to use OEM parts, even if they're remanufactured. They were the parts that were designed to work with your vehicle.

Also have you looked at reviews on the O'Reilly site? I will credit them that they don't seem to remove negative reviews

A reputable shop by me told me he has had so many warranty redo's on remanufactured steering racks, that he will only install new racks unless none are available. If you want a reman.rack you have to sign a waiver.

Okay, so where does the "Toyota" unit come from? Maybe from a big national rebuilder like LKQ? Has anyone asked them who they get them from?
Toyota will always mark up what they have to purchase from said rebuilder probably 100%.

Pretty sure BBB does just about everyone's reman units these days. Buy the best price/warranty.
It would be fascinating to know if BBB is also doing Toyota's. I imagine they'd never tell us, though.

Also curious if Toyota might still require a separate "line" or better parts or more exhaustive procedures.....or is BBB like Henry Ford: you can have any color you want as long as it's black.

Not a single review for what I'm looking at on O'Reilly website 😐

No thanks to any mass market remanufactured steering boxes or steering racks. Is the Toyota reman unit any better? I don't know... but I can tell you that whether the box says MasterPro, Cardone, Napa, Duralast, etc. you don't want any of it.

Try to find a new one, not remanufactured. I have no idea what car you're working on but I picked a random Toyota (2005 Corolla) and looked it up on Rockauto and there are two new options available... SKP for $230 and Edelmann for about $320. I would personally pick one of those or seek a new option from another retailer if you don't like Rockauto. Also for some applications O'Reilly does carry new components in addition to the reman... so if you are limited to what O'Reilly offers, explore for a new version not reman... although I've found pricing is pretty high compared to what's available on Rockauto for new gearboxes and racks. Personally the last steering gearbox I bought was for a 1997 Yukon and I bought a NEW Cardone unit from Rockauto. It was PERFECT. Previously I've bought/warrantied ilke half a dozen reman boxes from MasterPro, Napa, ACDelco, etc. in other vehicles and they've ALL been junk.

Thanks for the advice and feedback. 2003 Toyota highlander V6. The only new one I see on rockauto is this one. https://www.rockauto.com/en/catalog...3.0l+v6,1418341,steering,rack+and+pinion,7388
So you think getting a new Edelmann would be better than a reman Toyota?
...the Edelmann OEM/interchange numbers don't match what I found for 2003 Toyota highlander V6 limited fwd. Unless I found the wrong number 😐

If I see some kind of 'lifetime' warranty- it warrants a harder look. The 'serious' parts give a realistic warranty.

Keep in mind that if you get fed up with the aftermarket rebuilds in a year or two, you're SOL with getting a Toyota one. Toyota generally requires a Toyota core to be turned in; you won't get your core credit back with an aftermarket core.

Unfortunately, Toyota doesn't make new Ring and Pinion for 2003 Highlander. Reman is their only option.

Are you saying that no matter who it is,if it's reman, it's likely assembled by the same hands?
More than likely. BBB has renamed itself. https://www.terrepower.com/

Any r&p or pump, regardless of vendor and name on the box is a BBB. MasterPro, Vision, Napa, etc. Not saying there isn't someone else out there, but by and far they are the largest, most common. Cardone was/is out there, but Advance was pretty much the only ones still carrying them, I would go BBB over Cardone anyday.
