Manual tire pump recommendation?

Viair makes decent portable compressors. I have their 77p model.

But my 15-year old cheap Target compressor still works, too.

I once used the yellow Joe Blow Sport pump to inflate a flat tire after plugging it. It's not as bad as others make it sound. I successfully inflated the tire to 35 psi in about 10 minutes of pumping. It is not fun and I wouldn't use it on a regular basis but it did save me the time I needed it.

I've used floor pumps for that. I wouldn't much fancy using the wee hand pump in my post above, but I suppose it might be do-able in an emergency.

However, if you have problems with the bead seating I doubt you have any chance of forcing it on with any manual pump.

There are dramatic tricks involving detonating propane or butane behind the rim but I've never been forced to try them.

I don't know how it will work but I purchased a refurb Porter Cable pancake oil less refurb pump (around $60 e-bay) a 30 ' air hose, and just now a handle / air gauge / clip on air fitting, and see how it all works. Noisy and requires 110v , about $100? approx., see how it works mostly for tires and air tanks. We will see.

If using a bike floor pump for car tires you can look for one that is designed for mountain bikes. They would typically have a wider barrel and lower max psi.

Topeak has a few pumps in the lineup that are geared toward mountain bikes. There is the JoeBlow Ace, JoeBlow Dualie and JoeBlow Mountain. Lezyne also makes some nice pumps. They have the Alloy Over Drive and Classic Over Drive.
