My father in law neglected his volvo 240 again.

Last time I changed his oil PYB went in and he topped up with lord knows how many quarts of whatever he had. The amount of crud in the can was impressive. Castrol GTX went in along with a fram ocod.

Careful with neglected OCI with the OCD. A good 5000 mile filter, but I would not push it.

Probably not as bad as you think it might be.


Is this a car that requires regular top-ups? If so, his UOA would probably look very good.

Getting gunk out of the engine and into the filter can is one of the requirements of a good oil.

If that's a B 21 a PH8 will fit. I ran them for a number of years on B 20s and 21s. The B21 is a tough motor.

B21 is tough, but the B230 is a huge improvement in many ways.
