Isn't the Platiunum geared toward longer drain intervals like 10-15k? Probably filter about the same, but my guess is the synthetic media is made to last a little longer.


The Platinum (aka WIX XP) is geared towards long use intervals. But the Gold's efficiency is almost twice as good as the Platinum's (95% vs 50% @ 20 microns). That's right from WIX tech data. People that don't care much about efficiency won't care, which is fine.
 
I don't quite understand why they would make the Platnum less efficient but made for longer intervals ??

Probably so it doesn't clog up as much over a long use interval - that's what WIX Tech line will tell you if you called them and asked why. But the thing is, other full synthetic filters that are rated for long use intervals have much better efficiency.
