I have a 2003 VW 1.8T and thought about going to the largest oil filter for the car, Mann 905/4. The dimensions are exactly the same as my current filter W 940/25 except the 905/4 is about a inch taller. Anybody have any experience with this filter on a 1.8T

All of my xref's don't appear to integrate any variation in your Mann numbers (w9054/9054/w905/etc.).

At Mann's own site, I get no 905 anything with a 2003 1.8 engine. They're all (W)719/30 (for example) numbers. I didn't check other years or other engines.

Mann-click me! Clicking on the filter number will show its attributes.

These are essentially 3/4-16 filters with a common 2.8/2.4 gasket ..with an exceptionally high bypass valve setting. This requires a more substantial media (probably wire/mesh reinforced). I'd love to find out why they do this (from an Audi/VW engineer type).

This is just a thought, but I tried rearranging the cross numbers of the W905/4 with a w950/4 and got a filter that crosses to an alternate filter of the one used on your Volkswagon. I don't know if it was typed wrong or something but I was just toying around with the numbers and came up with that.
