Mann Hummel

I've read it & I've stated several times on this board that Brand Ranks filter ranking can't be compared to ISO testing standards. What does BR video's have to do with Ascent's Boss filters testing at 99% @ 34 microns?
You're still missing the point. The Boss in the BR ranking does not correlate with how they would rank when using the ISO test results and the M+H spec sheet info.

You're trying to "make a point" that many here are very well aware of. You quoted me as if I'm implying BR ranking system correlates to ISO Standards? It doesn't work like that & BR videos can only be compared to THEIR own testing system & or for entertainment purposes.

Still missing the point. Even if just looking at the BR testing, the Boss is out of bed with reality is what I'm saying because BR's ranking of the Boss does NOT correlate to how it would rank using the official ISO efficiency specs or even Ascent's ranking results. If anyone thinks BR's ranking of the Boss is more accurate than how it ranks using the ISO efficiency spec, then they don't understand oil filter efficiency testing. This stems back to post 17 where I pointed that out.

I already knew that point but you don't understand that I get it. Did anyone claim BR testing correlates with ISO testing standards?

I never claimed anyone did say BR testing correlated to ISO testing standards ... it obviously doesn't, but some take it as an accurate test and ranking. What I'm saying is some people believe that the Boss is better efficiency compared to some of the other filters that BR tested, but how can that be when official ISO test info (including the M+H spec sheet that shows it at 99% at >46u for the model of Boss BR tested) does not support that same ranking to others tested. Maybe you get it, but many others watching YouTube don't seem to.

You'd have a better audience if you protest to become a YT comment's "Oil filter Patrol". I'll chip in for your "BITOG Official YT" badge. j/k

I don't waste much time making comments on YT oil filter videos because too many there making comments are more fun to read and roll eyes and laugh about instead.

I don't blame you & I don't post there either. I just have a couple of my own lame video's like "7.3L cold start". 😄

Endurance, yes… For the high price of the Boss, not really a good deal. But, to call the Boss “top of the line” for the price they are, is pushing it, IMO. There’s a LOT of better choices for the same or less $. If Mann was so great, they wouldn’t be getting dropped by their downstream brand names in droves (although I did see Meijer has replaced their Fram Ultras & Tough Guards with Purolator).
I think Mann are still an (or the) OEM supplier of VAG. Someone chime in if I'm wrong, but they look identical to the VAG branded filters... The only other options it could be are Mahle and Hengst, both of which have black rings at both ends not present on the branded ones.

I use them frequently as they're almost half the cost of the branded ones. Plus, as @TiGeo constantly reminds me of, they're practically free if you send the used ones back for a new one.

You are correct most of them are Mann with some Hengst or Mahle thrown in.

GERMAN Mann, yes. Chinese, Mexican, or Fayetteville, NC made-not so much. Amazing how Premium Guard can pump out low priced oil filters that hold up so well & Mann can’t seem to do it!

Not really sure what you're saying. I order Mann off the internet and they say "made in Germany" right on it. I know there are ones made in Mexico as well, just not the ones I'm using. I haven't seen any NC ones. Definitely never seen a Chinese Mann oil filter for an Audi.

Wix and Purolator, both owned by M+H, are all made in these locations, as are private label filters supplied by M+H. You'll also see these countries of origin on some Mann branded spin-on filters.

Ya I get that part. But Mann is still the OEM supplier for VAG. Audi's aren't exactly known to have oil filters that don't "hold up". I'm curious how this conclusion was reached.

Unless this is an argument about saving $6 then I don't really care I think that's the most banal discussion to be had on this entire forum.

Mann & Hummel owns Purolator and Wix, and have been driving quality downhill and production to offshore Third World factories since they have owned them. Mann CAN make a good oil filter, but for some reason they don’t feel like it-they may have began as a quality German filter manufacturer, but greed took over since then.

IF you can get genuine Mann for your (likely European/German) vehicle, go for it. We here in the colonies don’t generally have that option for our non-European cars & trucks.

Hopefully the colonies will get the worldwide web soon.

I will avoid Purolator and Wix and stick with the "Made in Germany"-stamped, Audi-approved Mann filters then. Much appreciated.

I wish Mann could have left Wix alone-they were always a great American made alternative to lesser low end filters (like Purolator Classics, Fram Extra Guard orange cans, etc.), but I guess Affinia had to sell out. Seems to happen all too often in the auto industry.

I agree. Pre m+h Wix were what we currently see in Premium Guard today. Great QC and workmanship, but made in the USA!
