Big filter. Interesting center tube. Was in service for 5,000 miles with M1 ESP 5w30. Same filter and oil went back in. Enjoy.

This filter fits the CATA 3.0 TDI. '09-'12 in the USA.

Looks very similar to/same as the "standpipe" center tube design used on some spin on/canister filters, usually larger applications. As noted, designed to help reduce oil drain back. Good idea imo.

IME with Hyun/Kia using cartridge filter applications, the start rattle often heard is imo because of drain back and thier cartridges do not use this design. Obviously some thought given to that here by VW.
