AC Delco PF66 (Champ) C&P

Hi Folks. This came off my 23 Colorado ZR2 with the 2.7L TurboMax engine. 4,300 miles on the oil & filter. 14,500 miles on the truck. Oil was Mobil 1 Extended Performance 5w30.
Looks like the filter did fine.
Mobil 1 Truck and SUV 5w30 and another PF66 went back in.

Did its job as designed. That looks like the PF63 I installed on my 5.3 Sierra today. Noticed the larger holes and wider & thicker gasket. Wondering if another supplier is making the Delco filters?

Good question. The factory installed PF66 and all that I've bought since look like they're made by Champ. I also suspect the manufacturer for AC Delco filters may change based on application.

Leaf spring is smooth, which counts on a metal end capped filter.

Looks like I expect a Delco to look which is great. Hopefully they keep looking like this and no leaky bypass seals

Thanks for the C&P. This is the same filter that goes on my '23 Blazer w/ the 2.0L. Looks to be well constructed, but I really wish it had a silicone ADBV and a metal crimp rather than glued. I've been pretty conflicted on running the PF66 or something else. Some C&Ps look great, others look subpar, others have extra plastic on the clean side of the filter media. I'll probably cut open the PF66 after this next oil change, throw on a CarQuest Premium that I bought and see what I decide to use in the future. Thanks again.

The one side bypass seal area looks pretty good, smooth. 'Perhaps', not a seal area leaker. Still a Champ Labs made ecore filter.

They must test baseplate hole numbers and found spreading the flow as much as possible evens out the dirt collection on the media, or something. That’s a lot of holes and not too much metal. Toyota went to these elongated slits on some models, maybe there is something to it.

Big holes on the thread end, nice! Along with the ecore plastic inner, this filter should not have much resistance to flow.

Most of the flow resistance is from the media. Using lots of big holes and an Ecore center tube will cut down some total dP, but it's not going to be huge. Maybe they went that route because the media is more restrictive, and had to counteract that with less dP on the base plate and center tube. The end goal is to keep the total dP across the whole filter to an acceptable level.
