I have a friend who works for Napa. Was talking to him the other day. He was saying that Napa contracts with OEM parts makers and rebadges them with the Napa name. In a lot of the cases, he said, the companies will either change or add the last digit on the part number for Napa, but, it was essentially the same part number.
So, he was trying to make the point that Napa has better quality parts than the other auto stores. He then started talking about oil filters, he said Napa has the better filters because they are made by Wix. Advance Auto carries Purolator, which he said, Wix is a much better filter. I told him the same company that owns Purolator just bought Wix.
We started to get into an argument. He said Advance bought out CARQUEST and that Purolator made the CARQUEST oil filters. The Wix-made Napa filters were much better, he insisted. I told him that the CARQUEST were now being made by Champion, and he responded that Champion owns Purolator.
When I tried to tell him that the company who owns Purolator (Mann) just bought Wix, no, he said, Wix was Wix.
I couldn't get him to see what I was trying to say.
