Mann air filter (is this a problem?)

Hi,
Just got my Mann air filter that's made in china. I noticed that around the pleats there are pieces of plastic around. Can these plastic pieces fall off and get into the engine.The pieces are on the engine side of the filter.

Are the pieces of black plastic well attached or just sitting there? Hard to tell in the pics.

They look well attached but I am worries with the air pressure they can be forced off

No problem. Even if one or twenty of those things happened to break off and get ingested, you would never even notice it.

Won't than be pieces flying around in the engine?

No worries. There's not going to be enough differential air pressure to tear those molding flash pieces loose, and even if there were, they're tiny pieces of soft plastic going into a combustion chamber that sees >>1000 degrees F. They'll be gone in microseconds.

I wouldn't be concerned about it.. if anything, get an exacto knife and gently cut them off if you're really worried about it.

When the filter is used up, you won't even see the excess tabs.

This is very common and those "goobers" are very well attached. I've never seen one come off. Install the filter and worry no more!

It is very common. Those things are produced when the liquid rubber or plastic is injection molded around the paper part.

The only filters I see that don't do that are the recyclable filters.
