My paper air filter with approx 20,000 miles was just replaced. The old filter had missing pieces on the intake side. These were small pieces where the filter is glued to the plastic. I guess they got sucked into the engine and injested. Anyone have this happen before? Seems like a major defect to me. Check your air filters carefully, especially the side on the intake. I will be returning the filter to the manufacture for analysis. Any other suggestions?

If you had this problem one time, maybe you might want to check the new air filter about every 3-4000 miles to make sure if it happens again, it gets caught sooner.
Might save the engine if the missing parts are going thru the engine.

My suggestion would be to not buy that brand of filter anymore.

i had a filter that did that. it was a fram and it had 15k on it. if i put my finger on the filter, it would be soo brittle...and brown..yuck...lol but dumb me, just for that car i bought another fram heheh
Hear is a link to the filter that seems to have small parts come unglued and been injested by the engine. Look around the edge where it is glued and also where the filter is missing in part of the inner circle. This is not how it looked when installed some 20,000 miles ago. What do you all think! Am I being too over the top to complain?

Follow up on this issue. Yes it was a Purolator same as someone else has a recent issue with. I have been in contact with Purolator. Vicki Haveman of there Fayetville NC office reports this filter is not made by Purolator but purchased from a subcontrator. It has the Purolator name on the side of it. They have agreed to resolve the issue to my satifaction.
I believe they would not do this unless they believe that they do have a problem with these filters.
The new filter has 3000 miles on it with no problem so far. It is a NAPA GOLD. If you are using a Purolator air filter I would be sure to inspect it to make sure it is staying together.
