This is the most extreme dust and dirty setup ever. For me at least.
I have a stump grinder powered by a predator 459cc.
First mod, it appeared the wing nut came loose, wasn't free spinning but was enough let some dirt by in the first hour of run time.
Replaced thumb nut with a 10mm lock nut, but the predator air filter left a lot to be desired....
Mod 2 I observed an air filter from an older Honda cyclone air filter dropped right in. Bigger filter, thicker media, more pleats and the foam prefilter had thicker foam with much smaller cells. Best of all they're about the same price as the OEM filter. Like a 5 way win.
If you have a Honda small engine you probably already have the best air filter setup you can get. Honda seems to understand dust and dirt destroys engines.
Mod 3 I discovered k&n air filter oil.
Mod 4 I created a pre+prefilter out of an old sock with k&n oil.
Mod 5 discovered a little bit of dirt was still vibrating past the filter o-ring with a tight lock nut. So glue the air filter, o-ring and air cleaner base up with RTV.
See a slight coating of dust on the air filter stud.
