I received a letter they looked like an official goverment letter. It was an offer to re-fi my house. Not only was I upset by the copy-cat envelope, but the payment example was almost exactly the payoff on my existing loan. So, I took a small, thin lead sheed, stuff we use for porting heads, and put it in the return envelope and sent it back. The letter weighed 3.7 ounces, including a couple of feet of scotch tape to seal it up. Is anyone else bothered by mail that arives in important looking envelopes and the fact that thse people have a lot of information about you?

The information is pretty much public knowledge (with a little research). Many county governments have a lot of that information available on their website. I can usually find out how much you paid, who the lender is, who you bought it from, a picture and measurements of your house and property, any improvements you've made, and how you financed it.

I do find it disgusting that companies resort to official looking envelopes and copy-cat formats that make it look like something important. There is a car dealer in another town that sends out letters that appear to be from a legal firm. Once you open it you find that it's for a "liquidation sale". I show my disgust by never gracing their doorstep.

Ilike to put a bunch of washers taped together into the return envelopes of junk mail.

The last re-fi offer I got was for 6.5% versus the 4.0% I'm presently paying! They obviously don't do any homework before the mass mailings.

I read one time about a guy who used postage paid business reply envelopes in his marketing mailings. He said he got all kinds of things returned in them.
Sometimes they would be affixed to a red brick which he hated because the postage was pretty high.

I hate those 'official' looking envelopes too. I have a friend who gets 'official looking' letters all the time for student loan consolidation.
