Both oil filters from our 1996 Porsche 993/911; ~1k miles on filter, ~46K miles total. The shorter filter is mounted on the engine and the larger on thermostat attached to the dry-sump remote oil tank. The short filter is COO Austria while the larger one is COO China. Both filters are very well made, up to what is expected of Mahle, however the China COO OC213 differs insignificantly from the Austria COO version with no band and maybe very slightly smaller holes in the baseplate. Refer to the last picture. Thick cans, tough, dense media with even pleats and good gluing, etc. Nether has an ADBV, but both have bypass valves but in different ends of the filters. Nothing noted in the pleats aside from some carbon in the engine filter. ~12 qts of Redline 10w-60 out and in.

In this case, the China COO filter appears as well made as the Austria one, not surprising for Mahle. That said, I went Porsche OE, Austria COO, for the replacement.

And in the background is my epoxy and Marine-Tex small batch mixing and tinting board and one time pellet gun target...we all have somthing similar near the bench :D

Where is your evidence for low efficiency with Mahle filters?

You can search for the few times people have reached out to them. Eg:

Mann is also now making oil filters in China, and what I've seen of 'some applications' look comparable to Euro Mann oil filters. Not an endorsement of the coo/move, just an observation acknowledging the OPs finding with the Mahle.

Filters look to be quality made.

Thanks for c&p.
