I like using magnet because it makes me all warm and fuzzy inside just like some people like to change their synthetic oil at 3000 OCI. To each their own.

I'm sorry I mis typed.

Whatever the magnet picks up is too big to be read in UOA, magnets do not affect UOA. Anything the magnet gets would get picked up by the filter. The only thing the magnet does is keep the filter clean of that debris.

This has been beaten to death here.

I still use one, but I never get the amazing pictures that I've seen. At best, I get a stain that won't wipe off.

Hoax, man. In my opinion,my Mobil 1 Filter captures the particles that need to be captured. The Magnet just concentrates a few particles that the media would otherwise catch. .02.

Some manufacturers even put in magnetic drain plugs...and manufacturer's usually don't spend a dollar unless they think it's necessary.

+1

And they can be FREE when you remove them from a dead hard drive. I have them on all my vehicles and there is always ferrous material surrounding the magnet outline inside the can.

OP,
Magnets have been discussed like beating a dead horse around here. Do a few searches and read up on it.
