In the future, I plan on installing some type of filter for my automatic transmission. I read all good reviews about the Magnefine and that appears to be a good option. But after seeing how small the Magnifine is, I would prefer a larger filter for an increased amount of holding capacity. I would be able to spin off the filter can and replace it rather than disconnecting ATF lines every time. I would also have a greater variety of filters to chose from, P1, M1 Bosch D+, etc. So members of BITOG what do you say, would you install and mount an external filter or go with a Magnefine?

Probably the biggest problem with the spin-on is where do you mount it with today's crowded engine compartments? If you can find a place to mount it, go for it. The setup costs more up front, but the filtration can be better, depending on what spin-on filter you use. Spin-on filters are usually cheaper and easier to change and have way more capacity. Probably no reason to change more often than 50-100k miles. You can add strong magnets to the outside of the filter if you like.

That being said, I usually use a magnefine or spx and they do an outstanding job.

The remote mount and related hardware will run you $40-$50. The Magnefine will run you about $20 and require (maybe) a couple of clamps. I don't know how much the newer models run. They appear more suited to the hard line installations.

Hydraulic mounts are the cheapest. They're a much better deal than engine oil remote mounts. The filters are usually more expensive, but tend to be finer.

A BP80A with an EaBp90 is about the cheapest bypass setup to put on a trans. It too has space requirements, but runs maybe $70 installed/delivered (some hose barbs, hose, and clamps required).

I have a remote ATF filter unit just like the one in the link on my suburban. I mounted it just below the fan shroud so it 'sees' plenty of air, kind of acts like a bit of a cooler (I have a front mount trans cooler too). It makes half capacity drain refills a breeze, & I use a Baldwin filter for durability. I have had it on there for more than 6 years, my fluid stays clean between D&R's, the transmission still shifts like new. I have nearly 200K miles on the all original everything.

That's not too bad. The Jeg's $9.95 handling fee makes it a $20 deal. From there you only need a couple of reducer bushings and some 5/16 or 3/8 hose barbs (depending on the size of your line) and some cooler hose/clamps.

Yes, the PL30001 is the PureOne number.

The price of this went up a tick probably due to currency crash. It can fit one automotive filter for the Jag/Lincoln app, but the spec'd filter is finer. The mount itself has a bypass valve.
