Hello

I know there has been some conversation regarding the real Magnefine filters and the various "clones" for about half the cost. I just pulled off a Amazon version which I purchased at a time that Magnefine was out of stock. The clone filters are just about two for one vs the Magnefine.

At first glance, they look like they could come from the same factory, however there are a few minor differences.

First off, I just wanted to say that I didn't experience any issues with the generic filter. Build quality seems fine and it seems to do it's job just as well as anything else. You will see in the pictures, and I apologize for the quality, but the welds are different between the two. Also, the Magnefine is stamped "Out" on one side. I cut the generic filter, but didn't waste a new Magnefine since we all know what they look like inside. The generic filter DOES NOT have a bypass valve. To a lot of people that is a deal breaker. IMO it shouldn't really matter. If the filter is so loaded with debris that it would need to go into bypass, then it's probably already too late for transmission or P/S system. Again, just my opinion. Here are a few pics.

Thanks for the effort.
How was your filter applied and for how long?

I cut a gas filter open after 15 years on the job.
It was torturous with a hacksaw and all the cuttings loused up the element revael.
I'll buy a filter cutter if ever I need to open any can filter again.

Actually, that spring IS the bypass valve. The whole filter media will move away, allowing some flow if plugged.
That depends on the direction of flow of course.
