Just did a Magnefine Installation this morning after my hose clips finally arrived after 1 month.
It was a pretty easy job, complicated by sticky old hoses and me being a goose...
I ordered 4 3/8" magnefines during december, and some hose and the clips. The clips are a touch on the small side but the biggest the supplier could get. In all honesty I could not pull the new hose off the barbs with manual force so I feel they are pretty safe. In any case I will be checking them for leaks - more regulalry at first.
I found the cooler return line by feeling for the hot and cold line after a long drive. I double checked the flow direction by undoign the hose and pointing it to a 1 L beaker. As I was alone at the time i had to start the car, run around to the front, check flow, then run back - in 6 seconds, about 2/3 of a quart came out - that's a lot of flow.
I had to cut the old hoses free from the barbs. the old hose clamps were also dug into the old hose by about 1mm, they seemed a better fit and a bit wider than the current new clamps.
When I was under the car I didn't move the beaker full of partially used ATF away, and while manhandling the disconnection and re-attachment of the bottom connection, I knocked the whole bloody beaker with the drained ATF over onto the floor - Kitty litter time! Luckily I had some remaining Amsoil in a quart bottle in the cupboard to make up for the loss.
I ran it for about a minute, and no issues. THe filter does not actually touch the motor mount and there are no rubbing points on the hose. I was contemplating fitting the filter int he middle of about 2 ft of hose and routing it so the filter is at the top of the engine bay, but I felt it would be to floppy and move all over the place.
All in all a good job to do - Will be changing at about 30 - 45,000km. For anyone wondering why I didn't replace all the fluid int he tranny - I did a D&F about 5,000 miles ago.
