How do you open a Magnefine oil filter for trans/power steering? I have one sitting on the desk next to me, not sure how to get it open. Does it have to be cut open?

I crushed mine with a sledge. I was not in a patient cutting mood that day. The filter media was relatively unscathed. Wear goggles.
Magnefine filters unscrew.
I used channel locks and a small pipe wrench (both were handy at the time). It took a bit of effort.

When I smashed mine apart I don't remember was it an o-ring seal between the halves?
