Magnatec Stop-Start

Magnatec is a Group 3 oil we believe with an Ester based additive to cling to the engine when cold or so the opinion on the Internet chat forums believes.

Castrol are big on flannel and very low on facts and in this case it is worse than usual.

It appears in Ireland it is a 5w30 and in the far east a 10w30.
I would assume it has further anti wear additive in it over normal Magnatec and possibly something to slow down fuel dilution of the oil from incomplete combustion during the stop start process but do not bank on that.

Expect nothing more factual from Castrol unless one of their people has presented a paper to one of the learned oil societies.

Interesting product.

Is this designed for the newer cars that have the auto start/stop feature? (when you stop at a traffic light, it shuts the engine off)

My wifes C-Max does that, along with most hybrids. The starter is incorporated into the magnetic torque converter / drive motor / generator. Supposedly the side benefit of this is a more concentric motion to start the engine reducing a pressure point on the bearings. I would think at that point its splitting hairs, but I'm no expert.
