maglight flashlights . toss them or ?

i am digging through and cleaning up . found 3 3 D cell aluminum flashlights form years ago. Don't know what to do with them . Could put D cells in them and use it as a club .

Any thing interesting that can be made with them? or just toss them

Easy, convert one to low output LED (al la hurricane torch), convert one to a Malkoff drop in and leave one as incandescent for the fun of it. Their time has passed but they would still make great emergency spares.

I have one with the LED conversion. I keep it in my Jeep and grab it when I hear things out in my yard. Makes a good club if needed. I have modern flashlights in the house that will outshine it by probably 200+ yds. and will fit in a pocket.

Be careful leaving one in the car if you live in a hot place. It tends to make the batteries swell and leak. Happened to one of mine but I was able to pound the swollen nicad batteries out with some paper towels, a pipe and a hammer. Saved the light after some cleaning.
Agreed, I pull them out in the summer. Although, before taking this precaution it did live in the back of the Jeep for about 10 years without suffering any ill effects. Keeping the D cells charged seems to help.
