Mach E cruise control

The cruise control on my Mach E shut off on occasion. Now it is unavailable full time. The message says Front camera fault service required. Also Pre-collision assist inoperative. The Ford dealer says $ 1,400 to run a 7 hour program update. It gets better. That may not solve the problem, it may still need cables to be serviced or replaced, for more money. Ford knew of this problem long ago, but neglected to tell anyone other than dealers.

Does anyone have any ideas on fixing this without overpaying the Ford service department?

What year is the car? Why is this not covered under warranty? The pre-collision assist is a safety system is it not?

2021 Mach E. I took delivery on 12/17/21. I think it is a safety issue. I guess Ford does not agree.

Try cleaning the camera lens first. A search gives a few ideas but this sounds like it could be a big $$ fix at a dealer. I would call corporate if they refuse to warranty it, they may do a goodwill fix.

File a report to nhtsa website. Enough reports will trigger a recall.

I saw a tear down on an earlier Mach-E and it was shocking how much cable / connectors / hoses / fittings were stuffed in there. Looked like a maintenance repair nightmare. Unless you are interested in learning the complete vehicle so that you can debug and properly maintain it, I would sell it or work out a subscription payment plan with your favourite dealer.

Yeah, the 22 mach e I run in the summer always complains when dust, water, fog, dirt, air, sun, movement etc gets in the way. Then you have to hit the ok button a bunch of times to clear the annoying messages. Ford does a fantastic job of dividing your attention while driving. I found the best way to avoid this, is to not drive ford.
