mac users - safari or firefox?

Im considering going to firefox on my mac mini (PPC, not intel based), it being my home web browsing and day to day use computer.

my biggest issue is that since I use it for a lot of web browsing, and often leave windows/tabs open, safari tends to get a memory hole if I dont shut it down completely daily, and then all of a sudden instead of having hundreds of MB of RAM free, all of a sudden Ill have 16 or 17 MB,and everything will come to a crawl.

Perhaps firefox is better in this regard?

Just curious what your opinions are regarding safari vs. firefox. I use firefox a lot on my windows machines.

Back when I had my ibook with the PPC G3, I used Firefox mainly. I did have Safari on it and it didn't feel as smooth as Firefox speedwise. Of course Safari was a little better than Explorer. I would say go with Firefox and you may end up using that as your primary browser, just my opinion.

JHZ, good question. I find Safari to be good for generic pages, but Firefox better for the overall experience in the Mac.

I've found that FF sucks up memory. I think the memory leak issue has long been fixed, but if your system is limited on RAM, Camino or Opera would be better choices. Personally, I enjoyed the quickness of Opera on my old PPC mac, but I didn't like the way it handled the bookmarks sidebar...Mozilla has this implemented better than anyone IMO.
