Royal Purple's Synchromax

Ravenol MTF-2

Honda MTF

Oh they have occurred. A lot of G56 guys got burnt with Chrysler spec'ing ATF for a transmission that Mercedes uses gear oil for.

I use the Mercedes gear oil in mine, and overfill it.

Where transfer cases are concerned, a lot have pumps that won't pump gear oil. No choice in the matter.
 
Agree with you that oil viscosity at pumping must be considered ... for circulating oil system.

Like Whimsey said, no two M5ODs seem to be exactly alike. I would try out different MTFs and ATFs and just see what works. Synchromesh shouldn't be too thick, that's what's in my 1994 right now, but gear oil IS too thick. Stick to things similar to Synchromesh and ATF and you will be fine. No one fluid is the best for every M5OD.
 
I've used a mix of maxlife atf and synchromesh in a ranger and it worked fine. Maxlife is a little thin, synchromesh is a little thick, I figure it evens out.
