Here's my first UOA. My 05 Corolla XRS recently rolled over 200k miles so a UOA was my gift to my car. This was my first fill with M1 EP and that's what I refilled with. Ideally, I'd like to hit 15k as M1 advertises. I drive 90%+ hwy at speed so 13k OCI will work well!

Very nice and reflects your easy driving. You can see the oil is starting to thin.

For a 1st run and TBN still 2.4 with 200k miles. Your TBN should be higher on the current fill at the same mileage. Everything looks really good just a wacky Vis with a high FP.

If the flashpoint is still high with no fuel detected...what else could cause the drop in viscosity? Would shearing cause this? Mobil's website shows a 10.6 cSt @ 100C.

Wear rates look good though. Silicon is a little on the high side.

You always expect a small percentage to be from shearing. However at 10k the oil should have recovered and thickened post shearing. We saw this allot in SM rated dino 5w-30 and some syn's as well. I would expect this to possibly be laboratory variation. If the OP wishes he can call and ask them to re-run the viscosity. I'd be surprised if it was truly below 9.0 cst still sheared but not out of grade since M1EP is middle of the viscosity range.

Some of the additives are also slightly off, either from use(cleaning) or a mixture, most likely from the previous oil used.

I emailed B-S to see if the sample was still available and if the viscosity could be re-ran. Oil I used before switching was PP 5w-30 for about 5-6k mi if that helps!

If that was the case wouldn't the Antifreeze % show that?

You didn't give any idea of duration. I would guess a few months during which they treated the roads for ice. Your silicon, sodium and even potassium could have come from treated roadways.

The silicon is fine and shows no sign of causing an issue. If we cut the interval in half 5k and the silicon in half roughly 13ppm would you still ask if its to high? It could be lower but again "if" its during winter months and they use sand it will naturally be lower during the summer. Also this is the performance version of the corolla so it could have a performance type of air filter(k&n).

Not so according to the averages for this engine. He ran 2 1/2 times the average. Check it out.

I didn't have to use any top-off oil over the 10k+ miles.

Also, I do have a K&N air filter if that helps explain any of the numbers...the roads were rough this year so a lot of salt/sand!

That is what I expected. So to recap there is no sodium or potassium coming from the engine. The true silicon is likely closer to 19ppm while using a K&N filter during the winter with salt on the roads.

I would continue what you are doing and as mentioned if you do another analysis it will like be even better then this.

I'm impressed-thanks for the knowledge! I know little about wear metals and such so I'm glad Blackstone includes the personalized comments!

The good people @ Blackstone labs re-ran the Viscosity. It came back at 8.698 cSt.

While note worthy its not overly concerning as the HTHS viscosity will still be within grade. There are a few recent UOA's of quality 5w-30 Syns with evidence of shearing. This happens to be a longer interval.

With blackstone? No, not consistently. Just keep an eye on the coolant level to be safe.
