Something bad is going on here. This is my second UOA on my wife’s high mileage 2004 Ford Freestar, and Na, K, and wear metals have spiked. Oil used was M1 HM 5w-20, and the filter was a NAPA Platinum 41516. Our annual mileage on this vehicle has dropped roughly in half, from over 20k miles per year to about 10k. This interval was 12 months and 10,126 miles. The Freestar sees almost all moderate highway miles, with a “short” trip about 10 miles one way, with occasional longer rural highway trips of 40+ miles once or twice a week. It sees no city driving, or other “severe” conditions.
To answer Blackstone’s question, the oil was changed at each UOA, so the oil and filter were new at the start of this interval.
I have not seen a problem with either coolant loss or signs of contamination in the reservoir.
Given the high mileage on this vehicle and the general rough shape (after 3 kids and 10 Wisconsin winters) I think this may signal the beginning of the end. Any and all comments are welcome.
