Anyone running this oil with good results in their Euro engine?

I'm just pondering what would be a potentially easily available and inexpensive synthetic oil that meets ACEA A3 for my 530i. I'm at 71K miles now and it seems like it started consuming some oil... took about 1qt in 7K miles, which isn't a tragedy by any stretch of imagination, but I'm thinking maybe this engine is ready for something slightly thicker than GC.

After I'm done with GC, I'll use PUE 5w-40 that I got from Debbie, but after that, if PUE is still not available locally and if it still costs $8/qt, then I'll probably look for something else.

I know I could use M1 0w-40, but from all I've read, the M54 engine doesn't like it all that much. People say it sounds noisy, as superficial as this may seem.

I see my local ChinaMart carries M1 HM 10w-40 for about $23-25 per 5qt jug. It has high HT/HS and high TBN, which would be good if I want to do 10K OCI. The only issue is, although rare, sometimes the temps dip down to 0F around here, so I'm not sure how this 10w-40 would fare. The few UOAs of this oil that I've seen look very good though.

If not, I guess RT6 5w-40 would be a good alternative, although it doesn't carry ACEA A3 certification, but I'm pretty sure it'd do fine.

This is my commuter car nowadays - I put 60 miles on it during each work day in a mix of hwy and city traffic. At home it's garaged, but at work it's not.

Odd that you bring this up, since I was just surfing the site.
The 10w30 M1 HM also meets A3.
I think either would be okay, and I'd run either in my little 1.8.

I've been using HM 10-40 in my E46 w/125K miles. Blackstones gave me a great report after 7500 miles, uses no oil, love it.
Don't worry, it will work.
Mike

Probably fine, but I would personally rather have a 0W/5W-40 in there for those coldest winter days up where you are. Rest of the year would be a great oil. 1 qt GC in 7k miles is not bad, really.

Mobil changed the formula - no longer synthetic. I was a fan of the 10w30 HM with its 3.7 HTHS and a -65F pour point in a API SL SAE30. But no longer. I would use the T6 or something else ... Amsoil ATM? I think the AFE 0w30 M1 works as well in a 6-7K mile 2 year OCI.

10w40 is fine if it gets cold. I wouldn't run it if it were 20 below, but down to zero is fine. Synthetics will pump fairly well if it's cold, even a 10w.

There's tons of decent 5w40s out there that would fit your needs. Lubro-Moly Synthoil Premium is readily available and meets BMW spec.

By "easily available" I meant something that can be bought at a nearby auto part store. I've never seen LM oil around here, although supposedly NAPA carries it.

It may perform better now - for the average user. So what does Nanook of the North run in his ungarged Corolla with -60F starts?

Darn Rotella T6, premium motor oil too I guess? Same with PC Duron.

Works great in my '97 e320 with m104 inline-6. Car just hit 250k miles on original unopened engine. Ran M1 10w30 for the first 100k, M1 15w50 from 100k-235k, and now on the 10w40HM. Helped slow an exterior rear HG leak from a couple drops per night to a single drop every few nights.

The 10-40 High Mileage is thick, more like the 15w40 conventional diesel oils. I would run the 0w-40, it runs great in our Passat
