My dad's car. Oil was a 5 quart jug of M1 EP 5w30 plus 2 quarts of plain M1 5w30 because dad wasn't paying close attention to what he bought. Same AC filter the whole run, no make-up oil.

M1 10w30 8k / M1 EP 5w30 11.2k

Blackstone says: You sort of blew the doors off oil use run on this sample, going up to 11,200 miles. Wear actually improved in most cases, though you got a slight uptick in lead, which comes from the bearings. Lead is not high enough to show a problem and even if you stay on at the same miles on the oil use next sample (we see no reason not to), lead may retreat a little. Silicon improved, which may explain the wear improvement, as some of the silicon is abrasive. No fuel, moisture, or anti-freeze found. Nice 32,200 mile engine. The viscosity was high.

My .02: This oil worked well. A Caddy OLM gives you the % of oil life left, and we ran it down to 4% this time. FYI, Northstar Caddys also hold 7.5 quarts of oil (I put in 7). Note also that Cadillac does not require synthetic for this particular engine.

I put in plain Mobil 1 5w30 this time, it's what I run in most of my family's cars. This was the only time I've put EP in any of them. We'll see how the regular Mobil 1 compares with it.
I'm looking down the thread titles of all these UOA's with 3k miles...wusses...pffft.

This is a sweet report!! M1EP might be the real deal. It certainly worked well in this engine using the GM OLM. How long are you going to run the regular M1 this time?

Good report. Blackstone's comments about the lead are out of line. The lead is actually low for the amount of miles put on the oil. What type of Cadillac?

Anyone else think this one is odd? The additive levels are all lower on the M1EP than on the standard M1.

There are times I think either Exxon-Mobil turns the additive faucet down (or) makes a special weaker brew when it's time to fill the 5-quart jugs for Wal*Mart. Looking at the posted weakened EP add-pack that was likely purchased at Wal*Mart makes me more suspicious.

This isn't the first time I read a weakened Wal*Mart purchased oil in the VOA or UOA boards here.

Don't forget their are 3.2k more miles on the EP sample along with 2qts of SM Mobil 1 mixed in with it. It's also possible we are seeing a new GF-4 type of M1 EP.

I wouldn't be surprised. Wal-Mart is notorious for telling suppliers that they will buy a supplier's product at such and such a price, low balled as ****, and only this price and if the supplier doesn't like it Wal-mart will pull the supplier's products from all their stores. So what does the supplier have left to choose from loose the account, take a loss on their products, or cut cost. Which one do you think the supplier will do? You can't stand up the Wal-Mart when they play hard ball. Just ask Rubber Maid....

I probably should have said "the additive levels we see." It does make you wonder if we're not starting to see the transition.

I'm not sure about the weak additive package at Walmart theory mentioned by Triple_Se7en. I don't think we've seen that have we? Too much risk for a mnufacturer IMO.

JSharp,
I doubt that the Triple 7 theory of product manipulation to Walmart is palpable. It does make for good aluminum foil hat wearing conversations though.

I think this sample was just diluted with 5qts EP and 2 qts mobil 1(sm). No big deal it did well enough.

...well enough indeed! Now about the aluminum foil hat...I was realtively normal until I wore mine during an electrical storm...

I asked Mobil tech about the GF-4 M1 EP last week and he said that right now only 30% are buying that vs 70% for the regular M1 so he didn't think their would be ONE Mobil 1 again.

There is no way XOM will sell different M1 compositions to different places. Enormous legal risk for them to do that.

A manufacturer may sell similar products to different retailers. But they are usually labeled house brands or have different model names. Examples are Costco/Sears sell some Michelin/BF tires that have unique names though they are probably very similar to some general Michelin/BF models with minimum difference. Also you never get the same matress names from the different matress stores.

I doubt even if Walmart sells a M1 Walmart version, the labeling may not be considered clear enough for differentiation.

It's probably just got diluted with the SM M1.

Was it, per chance, green anodized foil???
