M1 5w-20 in new jeep 3.7L

I enjoy tinkering and thus oil. But, I've never done a uoa... too much of a PITA when I could just change it if I'm worried. But, I may have to do it.

jeep 3.7L. First OC at 3000 miles and poured in M1 5w-20. I like PP, but M1 was on sale. Car has had some pronounced ticking, mainly injectors but some valvetrain. The M1 silenced valvetrain... revealing just the slightest piston slap on one cylinder. Not when cold, not when hot, but in the middle of warmup temp. Will calculate for the hopefully maybe measurable mpg change in a week or so.

Engine character is different too. It makes less noise, but an odd vibration character is present... like a growl that you feel but don't hear. It's not the greatest feeling.

The manual calls for a 3000 mile severe OCI, max 6000 mile OCI. It also says there's an OLM, but it doesn't have any indication until it's time. I'm going to roll for the full 6k oci (why else use syn?) but methinks I'll get a uoa on at the end. I'm not completely convinced that this oil is a good match or that this engine is in top shape. :-(

Also made me wonder what the factory fill was. Dumped out like water. no wonder the valvetrain was chatty.

I would not go to a 6000 mile OCI yet. the motor is new, it is still breaking in, thus alot of [censored] is getting into the oil. keep doing 3000 mile OCI for the first 15,000 miles. then go to the longer drain interval.


Mobil 1 is good oil. Id use PP if it was the same price, or cheaper.
 
What year is your Jeep?

My mom has an 05 Grand Cherokee, and it doesn't truly have an oil life monitor. Instead, it has a "Service interval reminder" That can be set from anywhere from 2000 to 5000 miles. Sounds like a glorified odometer to me.

The engine always made some ticking noises, I have used M1 5w30, PZ Platinum 5w30, Valvoline Synpower 5w30, and now it has 5w20 Quaker State Torque Power.
