Why?

Edge 0w-40 has a proven track record, and it still meets the LL-01 spec.

It's also possibly made of higher quality base stocks, judging by its very low pour point.

Indeed thanks. But it's cSt40 is much higher at 79.31 vs 70.8.

According to this thread, low pour does not always indicate a better synthetic base.

That's why I wrote "possibly."

However, if the oil had a ton of PPDs in it mixed with cheaper base oil, it would not be able to achieve low Noack. Edge 0w-40 has a pretty low Noack.

I was thinking the Annual Protection would either tie or be better in some areas.

Very interesting. M1 FS 0W-40 is the only M1 that gets four stars in every category. So, is that the best oil in the world? We could have an answer when I do a UOA comparison of the non-FS M1 0W-40 to TGMO 0W-20 SN in a couple of months. It would be embarrassing if TGMO did better though.

Castrol Edge 0w40 has been mentioned positively in this and other posts. I have a Challenger SRT and M1 0w40 and PUP 0w40 are the primary / popular choices for the engines in the SRTs. However, I am interested in the Castrol so I visited their website. Unless I did something wrong (and do not think that is the case) the Castro website provides no recommended oil for the Challenger SRTs. IE, they do not recommend their 0w40 for Challrnger SRTs and I find that either an oversight or they know something about their 0w40 and compatibility with SRT engines that I certainly do not.

Chrysler has a marketing deal with SOPUS, and hence only Pennzoil Ultra 0w-40 SRT is officially recommended. Castrol and Mobil are out. M1 0w40 used to carry the associated SRT spec, and then dropped it when SOPUS won the deal with Chrysler.

Yup. And about the only time you'll find the Castrol Edge 0w-40 as cheap as the M1/PP with mfg rebates, is when AutoZone is clearing out stock in December.

Wouldn't Castrol 0W-40 produced in Belgium and Germany still be a European "real" synthetic?

While M1 is either GTL or hydrocracked Gp. III, Castrol 0W-40 should still have some PAO in its formulation.
