I have a 128 GB M.2 SSD my dad bought for a Chromebook that he's not using. I'd like to use it in my laptop, and move my laptop's SSD over to my desktop computer. My laptop is an older laptop with SATA 1 architecture. Should I be able to use this adapter to run that M.2 SSD in my laptop?

ZTC Thunder Board @ Amazon

Is SATA III always backwards compatible with earlier versions?

Adapter looks fine. Looks like it just 'adapts' the power voltages and leaves the data pins alone. Yes SATA 3 SSD will work on SATA 1. It's interesting how that adapter encourages you to attach it to the back brackets. I would just adapt it to fit into a 2.5" or 3.5" drive bays instead, but whatever... it'll work.

Wait a sec... you want the M.2 on the laptop. Double check that the adapter fits into a 2.5" drive bay.

Thanks. Comments on that particular one note that it will fit if you trim the tab in the lower left on the image. There appear to be a multitude of other similar adapters out there. I'll order one up and clone away...!
