A day early...Thursday night...got an email with a gas bill that looked confusing, so went out the front to check the meter.

Fair bit of yelling next door (not unusual), but escalated wildly, and banging started (thought gunshots initially, but no reverb in the valley), and women screaming.

Went to make the 000 call, when a woman carrying a toddler streaked through my front yard and begged to be let in...I did, and locked up...lent her my phone, and she ran 000, while I did same on another mobile (cell phone)...I was a little less hysterical.

Then "you've got to go out there and check my Mum...he's hitting her with an iron bar"...uh-uh, not this little black duck...berserker with an iron bar, not me.

Police and ambos arrived, woman interviewed in my kitchen, her Mum OK(ish), and refusing the ambulance...guy next door taken away to be charged...released in the morning.

Was chatting with him today while he worked on cars in his driveway...blacked out (booze involved), had no idea what he was doing, and when the Police told him what he did, it was like they were telling him a story - one that he believed. Police thought that he was on Ice (Crystal Meth), but he wasn't and tested -ve.He was apologetic, embarrassed, and standing up to take the consequences of his actions.

Outcome could have been massively different, had one of his blows landed in the wrong place.

Was an utterly bizarre night.

That's just great when you inadvertently get involved in somebody else's domestic isn't it? Sounds like old mate needs to lay off the grog.

On a serious note, I'm glad I don't have that kind of drama in my life anymore.
It used to be a regular situation with older siblings who've since passed away or let their addictions rule their lives.

Glad everyone made it out ok.
Oh, and keep your guard up. I have a good feeling that fella will turn on you on a moment's notice!

Similar happened to me about 5 years ago. DV situation next door with lots of yelling and two small children in the house. Told the mum if things got serious, then there was safety next door with me.

Two days later, lots of yelling again, knock at our door and mum with two kids walked in asking for help. I locked the door and made her a cup of tea. Half an hour later the man starts knocking on the door, I don't say anything and keep the door locked, but he's a big fella, so I start doing my warm-up exercises.

But no need, I could here there was no fight in his voice, once he was on a level playing field he became very timid. We helped her move back to her parents place, 1000 miles away, where I believe she filed for a divorce. The husband quickly moved out and wasn't seen again. His parents still live in the area.

I think she sent us a Christmas card a while back.

I do not answer the door at night, nothing but trouble. I would never get involved in someones domestic disputes. I am not going to be on the receiving end of a projectile.

Not something anyone really wants to get involved in, but I'd never just sit idly by while someone (most likely a woman) was getting beaten, or worse...

Not much fun getting involved in domestics... the choice of letting them carry on with it, or getting involved. Seems to happen to me often enough. It's usually Meth, we call it P here...it makes them really agro and violent...alcohol is not as extreme in the mood changes. Next door to me are always at it,we call the cops often, but they can't do much if she doesn't press charges. Anyway, it's her who is the agro one. It doesn't come over the fence, much...

Something similar that this happened Thursday. A 27 year old man growing marijuana in his house stabbed a 15 year old kid for noticing lots of smoke coming from older guys house. Was 2 houses away from fo worker that called 911

Shannow, you used the wrong emoticon:

I’ve seen someone multiplying CCS by NOACK and insisting that the resulting number has some divinatory properties regarding motor oil quality.

This is the kind of crazy [censored] that drugs and alcohol does to people. Keep a sharp eye peeled on this dude Shannow.

That's what my dad used to say when he would get too drunk, flip out and start attacking family members. There's a reason drunkenness was dismissed as a criminal defense here in Canada. You have to drink A LOT and have a high alcohol tolerance to black out without getting sick. That excuse works exactly one time before people realize you are just an angry drunk. Just wait until that family starts to become critical of the amount he drinks, then the real fireworks will begin.

*I've blacked out in the past, insulted a good friend of mine, intimidated a bully because he was Russian and the Canadian WJHC team beat the Russian WJHC team that night but did not fight anyone. I was 19 and it was an awkward keg party, I have no sympathy for adult men who do it. Who can/enjoys getting blackout drunk past age 25?

I remember even as a teenager I knew that alcohol could cause you to lose your inhibitions and behave in a way more consistent with your character/personality.

Many years ago, my dads dad, (grandfather) went crazy and my grandmother had to call the police on him and they took him away. It turned out that his blood sugar was way out of wack. They put him on meds and it never happened again.

Finished it for ya. People don't need to be an alcoholic to go overboard and get so wasted that they do something (which could be violent) and can't remember doing it.

If it wasn't for the fact that she was carrying a toddler, and the sounds from next door were berserker rage would have just dialled 000...she typically dishes out a fair bit too.

meth teeth aren't pretty, eh ?

Yeah, same here. Not telling somebody else what to do, but I couldn't just sit by and turn the TV volume up, especially with two kids (aged about 2 & 5) caught up in the action.

You should maybe rethink this...

Quote:
According to the CDC’s statistics — estimates based on more than 18,000 telephone-survey responses in the United States — roughly 5,365,000 men had been victims of intimate partner physical violence in the previous 12 months, compared with 4,741,000 women. By the study’s definition, physical violence includes slapping, pushing, and shoving.

More severe threats like being beaten, burned, choked, kicked, slammed with a heavy object, or hit with a fist were also tracked. Roughly 40 percent of the victims of severe physical violence were men. The CDC repeated the survey in 2011, the results of which were published in 2014, and found almost identical numbers — with the percentage of male severe physical violence victims slightly rising.

“Reports are also showing a decline of the number of women and an increase in the number of men reporting” abuse, says counselor and psychologist Karla Ivankovich, PhD, an adjunct professor of psychology at the University of Illinois, Springfield.

Ivankovich says there isn’t much buzz about these numbers or their implications, because we don’t know how to handle intimate partner violence against men. “Society supports that men should not hit women, by virtue — but the same is not true for the reverse,” she explains. “The fact is, it’s simply not acceptable to hit anyone.”

I get it, though. Almost nobody takes DV against men seriously. There's nearly no support in place for it.
