My mother's 2007 Impala is starting to exhibit some transaxle slippage. It's a 2007 with 92,000 miles. It had the transaxle flushed at a GM dealer at 50,000 miles, so the fluid is fresh, the level is perfect etc. When you give it some moderate throttle from a dead stop, it will sometimes slip a little and clunk. It's not very bad, but it's noticeable. I'm reading a lot of stories about how these transaxles aren't that reliable.

Since it's about time to get the fluid flushed again, if it's going to need a rebuild, I'm just going to skip the flush. I'm thinking maybe I should add a bottle of Lubegard Red or Platinum. Has anyone actually successfully extended the life of an automatic transaxle that is showing symptoms of failure, with Lubegard products?

Thanks! Or does anyone have any thoughts on the situation?

I had a chevy venture with the or similar transmission with what sounds like the same issue. I switched back from dex6 to none synthetic 3 and it cured it right up until I sold her at 145k. I'm no mechanic but I believe its a problem in the valve body and not worn clutch plates.

That's what I'd do. New fluid and a bottle of Lubuguard. Probably even add a tube of the Lubeguard anti-shudder fix. Sooner the better esp before winter arrives. Keep us updated if you would. Guys on the Accord forum I'm on have had excellent results when they've had trans issues.

I just read it's a pressure control solenoid issue.

If that's the case, I'm going to take it to a transmission shop and see what they say, plus have the fluid changed.

Great research, it is indeed a known issue. Can generally be repaired if you find a sharp shop.

Dex VI is not known to repair things, but I have seen it adversely affect a few trans that were older. I am certain these were tired units that were near dead anyway...

No fluid, whether it be DexronVI, LubeGuard, or whathaveyou was ever designed to fix a mechanical/hydraulic problem in an autotransmission.

It might cause smoother operation or improved performance, but was never designed to fix problems.

so in your mind, 42K on transmission fluid still qualifies as "fresh"???

Given the owners manual calls for 100,000 miles flush intervals, yes. Meaning, it doesn't have like 200,000 miles on the factory fill and the trans is acting up.
