i have heard many positive things about Lubegard for the transmissions and have tried the small tube in a transmission that was giving me shudder issues. It helped but did not totallt eliminate yet. My Montero has what sounds like noisy lifters at startup that goes away as it warms up. I had an older montero before with the same issue and have heard it is a common problem with them and does not seem to affect them.

Has anyone tried the oil additive by Lubegard? Will it help the lifer noise? Link below.

I use the product as do other members and it is very good. According to the people who make the product it is really not an engine cleaner. It helps keep an engine clean but its main purpose is not to clean an engine. So if your lifter is noisy due to dirt or sludge plugging it up it will not help. They make an engine flush for that, or you can give Kreen or MMO a try. Once the engine is cleaned up, then you can switch over to Biotech Engine Protectant.

OTOH if the lifter noise is something that is common with your vehicle, the engine cleaners I mentioned won't help either. Hope this helps.

Lubeguard do make better products than some additive companies and they hold one full approval for noise reduction in ZF auto boxes.
Engine noises are tricky to figure out, so the first thing is to find out if the lifters are ticking or not, then investigate what might be the cost of fixing the problem rather than covering it up with an oil thickner or trying some kind of snake oil rocket fuel solvent.
In general terms if you do get cold start rattles firstly make sure the oil level, oil type (5 and not 15W etc?) and filter are correct, then if they are OK check to see if you have sludge or heavy varnish that needs removing. If the block is clean then just change to a major brand High Mileage oil and move up a grade if possible with a short first OCI. That will produce the same result as using any additive and won't breach the advice in most handbooks not to use oil additives.
Which oil and filter are you using at present???

I am running Pennzoil Platinum which I believe was 5w30 and a Mobil 1 filter so I don't think it is a low quality oil but i am willing to change it. I really am not a big Pennzoil fan and have had issues with sludge from some of their earlier synthetics in an older mercury sable that I no longer own.

Do the lifters just need adjusting? Do the stethescope thing and see if the noise is reallly lifters or some other component. I have even had belt tensionsers/pulleys make the same kind of noise.

You will have no such issues with the Pennzoil line today. In fact, many view their synthetic oils as some of the best you can buy OTC. I would make adjustments as Molakule said first. If that doesn't work, try something like MMO and an HDEO oil. Or as suggested, Lubegard also makes a flush.

I have always have good luck with Lubegard products. There was a time when three automakers approved of Lubegard automatic transmission products. Even Skyship, who is very anti-supplement, seems to agree that Lubegard has higher quality than some other supplement makers.

I stopped a squeal in a power steering component using Lubegard power steering supplement. The power steering unit squealed every time in cold weather. It stopped after I used the power steering supplement and never came back. That may have been the best results I ever obtained from any kind of a supplement.

I have tried the Lubegard Biotech Engine Oil Supplement. I have only my personal impressions to go by but the engine seemed to run better when I used the Lubegard. But I quit using Lubegard Biotech because it was kind of expensive to use with every oil change.

One of these days I will probably give the Lubegard nonsolvent engine flush a try.

I feel that Lubegard products are definitely a step above what most supplement makers make.

If you ever want to try it in the future, just use 1 oz per 4-5 quarts of oil in 200-300 normal driving miles before oil change. Do oil blot test every 50 miles, you will see the oil color gets darker rapidly.

Despite what all of the anti-additive naysayers state, by content, the BioTech stuff IS one of the best (IF not THE best) oil additive out there, IF one is going to use one regardless of what anyone says.

But YES, it DOES cost a pretty penny.

In some cases you actually get what you pay for. This is one of them.

I might well use Lubegard Biotech again-maybe in the summertime only. I would have to order it and the Lubegard engine flush through a NAPA or O'Reilly auto parts store.

I hope you have not been reading all the test reports in that silly Swiss motor magazine, as they are paid to print them. Just try and find a real report in a German magazine, as they don't do paid articles like other countries too often if it's auto engineering related in particular.
Try doing a before and after UOA with Castrol Edge or M1, as it won't help what magic they think is in their bottle, unless they copied a certain additive from Germany I will not mention to avoid being accused of bias.

I have no idea what Swiss motor magazine you are talking about Skyship. And if you know about some sort of good German additive nobody is going to accuse you of bias-just tell us what the German additive is!

Well that's not entirely accurate now, is it? We all already know he's biased against additives in general. And with no credibility, it's not like it'd be viewed as advertizing, eh? He should just spill it.

I must say though, skyship is like a "punch me" clown. You can knock him down, but it seems no matter how hard you hit him, he just bounces right back up.
