Lube Control and Higher Maintenance Dose?

I have decided to run a mixture of #132/LC at each oil filter change and also add Lube Control at the recommended 1000 mile intervals.

My question has to do with how much I need to add at each 1000 mile inteval. I have already added an ounce three times and some questions have come up in my mind.

The main thing the Lube Control has helped to control was the amount of noise from my Isuzu Trooper's engine when starting up cold. The engine is much quieter and a metallic ticking noise towards the bottom of the V6 was completely eliminated.

For the first 500 miles, the Lube Control seems to be helping the cold starts. By the time eight hundred miles comes around the metallic ticking and the other things Lube Control was "controlling" are back. Once I added the ounce of Lube Control again, there was an immediate difference towards quieter engine operation.

I just did a search and found Terry's recommendation of 1-3 ounces/quart for every 1000 miles. This sounds appealing to me because I was already considering raising the maintenance dosage to two ounces. I have the following questions about the higher dosage:

1. I am using Amsoil 0W-30 in my engine. How will placing 2 ounces for every 1000 miles affect my goal of streching my OCI to about fifteen thousand miles?

2. Will the amount of Lube Control mixed in the 0W-30 become so great that I will need to change out the oil early to avoid any negative affects between two products?

I would like to be able to add higher amounts of Lube Control. However, I am also worried that the higher amounts of Lube Control may limit me as to how high I could go on my OCI. Is this possible?

Any input on this matter would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Bobby

You will be fine!!! 1 onces per 1000 miles is just a starting point. 2 onces per 1000 miles is still very conservative compared to the origanal instructions!!! Do a UOA just to see how things are looking.

I remember when I tried RP. At 4k mi it was feeling thin and noisey. I added about 6 oz of LC for the first time to get everything into suspension for my next fill and things seemed more damped and got quieter. I never understood why as the motor was relatively fresh and clean and LC is pretty thin. Even if it disolved stuff into the oil, I doubt it raised the viscosity. Needless to say, I'm a big fan.

Since an ounce gives you a noticiable benefit but dissipates before the next doasage why not add an ounce every 500-800 miles and never have the symptoms you described?

JohnBrowning,
Thank you for telling me I will be fine. If 2 ounces per thousand miles is conservative, what were the original instructions? My main concern is can I expect a negative result if I go to higher dosages and try to extend my OCI over ten thousand miles to a fifteen thousand mile interval.

goodvibes,
I hear what you are saying. I don't completely understand what makes Lube Control so effective. I do, however, understand what you mean about dampened and quiet because it seems to be happening in my vehicle as well.

Bryanccfshr,
I thought about your suggestion after I posted my question. I put so many miles on this vehicle that it would probably be much easier to add Lube Control every 1000 miles. After all, I wouldn't want to be under my Trooper's hood on a full time basis.

Whether I add Lube Control every 1000 miles or 500 miles, my question is still basically the same.

On a 15,000 mile interval, will I have added so much Lube Control at 2 ounces per 1000 miles that the Lube Control would have a negative impact on my oil and vehicle engine?

By the way, I plan to take regular oil samples in order to determine just how far I could go on one OCI.

Thanks,
Bobby

I have been using the brew plus 6 ounces of LC at oil change and then 1 oz per 1000 or so in a 97 Rodeo, 3.2 L V6. Seems to improve the UOA results. Also using Amsoil 0W30 with the brew and LC.

The recommended dosage is located on each bottle of product that you purchase; 2 oz. per quart of oil for the first 1,000 miles then 2-3oz. every 1,000 miles there after.

That was the past recommendation for Lube Control, directly quoted.

The idea of running 2-3oz. per every 1,000 miles sounds to be a great thing to try to see if it will keep that noise away for you.

The last time I checked LC comes somewhere in the 20 weight range, which in some threads people suggested a slightly thicker oil to begin with when using higher doses of LC with extended changes, perhaps that was a part of the idea of reducing the recommended dosage, I wouldn't know.

I assume you will use UOA's as a guide, many members use bypass filtration at 15,000 mile intervals to keep the particle count low, I don't know what to say about that myself, as it seems it could be majority highway miles with very little short trips, which changes the perspective on things.
