Any words of wisdom from the BITOG community on LP gas grills? I am looking at Weber specifically the Genesis series. The E-320 (side burner) is preferred over the E-310 (w/o side burner). I've thought about the S-320 over the E-320 but don't know yet.
Weber Genesis S-320

I also considered the Kenmore 16237, but it is made in China.

My wife bought me a Genesis Silver (no side burner) about 4 years ago for my birthday and I have used it a lot. Best grill I ever had. A few coworkers of mine also have the Silver series and love them.

Man thats a nice grill.

I just bought a Weber E310 a couple weeks back. I have no use for a side burner. We had one on our last grill and never used it in 5 years.

The Weber is a sweet grill, expensive, but worth it IMO. I don't plan on having to buy another grill for a long time. It heats evenly and gets nice and hot (600 degrees),virtually no flare-ups. The downside is that it uses alot of LP. If I were to do it again,I'd plumb a gas line to the deck and get the natural gas model.

I thought the SS version was cool, but not cool enough to drop the extra couple hundred bucks on. IIRC the SS version has the exact same warranty as the enameled grill. NO incentive for me to spend more money there either.

I've been very happy with my Weber Genesis the last 5 years. The only thing that has died is the sparker box. I griped, they sent me two, no charge. I clean it once a year, a little crusty inside, but now silly flavor bricks. Mostly keep the gas holes clear. I use a cast iron box inside for wood chips.

I've used the side burner a couple of times in 5-6 years. It's mainly a gimmick.

How is it a gimmick? I assume you mean as in a gadget?
It is definitely something that I want. I thought that was clear in my 1st post. Anyway, we have used the side burner on other grills many times in the past & it's very useful. I guess we're weird.

I will plumb a gas line to the deck for LP to use my 1000-gal underground tank.

The warranty is indeed the same for the SS vs. enameled version.

I use the side burner quite often. Heating sauces, or toasting buns while burgers cook. Would much prefer grill with burner. Next grill, think I'd like a rotisserie attachment as well.

My only reservation of one you're looking at is knobs on top shelf. As bad as I am to want lots of "stuff" about, and room for a platter, believe I'd rather have knobs on front panel. Still, doubt that would keep me from buying, if all my other requirements were met.

the 3 burner layout in the weber gives you alot of control over the heat and heated areas of the grill. I don't know how the kenmore is layed out but it is something you should consider.

My Weber Genesis grill is probably the highest quality item I own.

As long as the guts of the grill are made good, like stainless steel, ceramic grills, etc. etc. you can't go wrong and clean them once in a while. You'd be surprized hoe many people don't and wonder why it's not working right. One thing, get the battery type of automatic ignition, not the "clicker" type. One thing I did and I can't remember the name, was I waited until about this time of year and they were on sale. You could still haggle the manager and get it even cheaper just so he could get rid of it and off his books.
