Lower sulfur fuel in the US by 2017

CA already has these standards as does Europe and Japan.

Wonder if that would allow CA European cars to follow European OCIs.

Maybe this will help get some of these heavy polluting V8 engines off the road. There is no need for a V8 engine beyond commercial purposes.

It is essentially an extension of California gasoline regulation.

Lower sulfur emissions directly benefits the catalytic converter, and will cause less wear and tear - definitely a good thing.

It will be interesting to see how much of an impact this has on TBN retention. I wonder if we will see a major shift to oils like EPS that are designed to work with low sulfur fuels.

And who put you in charge of "who needs what"? I've seen plenty of baffed out Civics blowing far more visible smoke than a clean running V8 would ever contribute.

And V8's aren't heavy polluting anyway. There's hardly any difference between the pollution level of a 4 cylnder, V6 and V8 at the same load. I'd like to see proof of say a Chevy Silverado pollutes much more than a Ford F-150 Ecoboost.

Since I don't need a V8, I guess I'll have to sell my truck and get one with a V10 instead.

Unless you tow or haul... or like to burn rubber, jack rabbit start, race, enjoy torque, low rpm's, (1300 @ 55 mph)long life. I'd say go fornicate yourself, but that'd be un - pc which obviously you'd appreciate!

back on topic...

I'll pay 7 cents more a gallon for low sulfur...

Hi,
gregoron - As a contrast, China is rapidly going all out with sulphur erradication too

To this end they are spending many millions on Refinery upgrades and in ensuring that suitable lubricants are being developed accordingly

China has had enormous air pollution problems of late

Guess what, I'm keeping my V8 powered truck. I happen to like having a V8 and you have no business telling me or anybody else that there is "no need" for a V8 except in commercial applications.

I'm taking the nasty old 307 V8 out of my GMC, and swapping in a much nastier 522 V6. I hope to have this done by Earth Day so I can go make an extreme demonstration of environmental disobedience (wild smoky burnout) in front of Greenpeace Headquarters.

EXACTLY my feelings as well--WTHeck are you anyway?
Just to make you feel better, I'll let you know I have 2 Corvette V-8s (naturally) and a Tahoe which guzzles gas at the rate of 1 gallon every 11 miles or so
Yep, a total of over 1000 CHEVY V-8 HORSES in my driveway at the moment
Put that in you pipe and smoke it (as my mom would say)
