Lots of cut open filters

I like those pictures of the oil filters cut open, the Amsoil EaO Oil Filter looked like it was the best 1.

Check out the supertech ST8A, one of the felt encaps has lifted off of the filter element, looks like it wasn't glued properly. At least the cardboard endcaps on the Fram filters look properly glued to the filteration media.

Lots of goo info from these pics! Thanks to Big O Dave for doin that. Things I saw were that the Donaldson P169071 & Fleetguard LF3487 & Amsoil EA all look near identical and really good quality builds.

Mobil 1 EP looks near identical to the K&N except it had more pleets & for the $3+ price difference for the K&N just for the 1" nut they could keep it. I pick Mobil1.

I was also impressed by the looks of the Denso.

I was not impressed by the PureOne. I don't like the idea of strings in my oil filters!

I feel I'm getting my $4.77 worth out of my Mobil 1 EPs'.

thanks again

In the second link if you look closely, look at how he has cut out the filter element from the endcaps for all the filters, but, for the ecore designed STP filter, the felt endcaps have been just peeled off. However, the cardboard caps of the Fram have to be cut off, because there is enough bond there because of the glue that they will not just peel off like the ecore design. Very intresting. Same is evident in the other ecore disgned filters, this will make me stay away from ecore designed filters. At least Fram with their cheap cardboard endcaps has them properly secured to the filter element.

The fabric end caps on the Ecore are thermal bonded, irrc. The adhesion isn't critical for integrity of filtration like the end caps on other filters. It's more or less like a gasket that you you adhere to one of two mating surfaces. The adhesion isn't critical to its function. Other filters need a gap below the end cap. When I'm looking down the interior of an Ecore, I'm looking at the inside surface of the can.

The Motorcraft does have an excellent relief valve. You can clearly see the difference.

The Motorcraft is the best filter for the money after looking at all those pictures. Think I'll stick with it, now. Never had any problems, but always look for room to improve. But, doesn't look like there is a better filter out there. Has the filter media of a Purolator and the construction of Ford (Built Ford Tough).

I agree. It's a great filter. I have a PureOne, Premium, Motorcraft and Baldwin in my garage and put the Motorcraft on. I'll keep using them and keep the others as backups.
