Not sure if this is the right thread for this or not, but my 'fun car' was totaled this past week. Was leaving a car show and an elderly lady pulled out in-front of me, the damage didn't look like it would total the car, but it did. Thankfully with the uptick in the used car market, I made a good profit off the car (trying to take the good from the bad). Thankfully no one was hurt, and cars always can be replaced. Drive safe out there BITOG'ers!

2003 G35 6MT with 107k miles, performance package & Premium Package.

Ordinarily I would say buy it back from the insurance company and spend $500-$800 to fix it, but I'm guessing it brings over $3,000 at the salvage auction and you don't want to pay that much after getting a $5200 check.

$500-800? The body shop quoted me $4600 to fix it... and I didn't ask about buy back because salvage titles can be a pain.

Find a Mexican owned neighborhood bodyshop to fix it. They'll do it cheap.

That. And that is not a stereotype.

My mechanic sublets a bay to guy who fixes wrecks. Seen everything from a 2021 Sienna to a first generation MINI. Recently expanded with two apprentices.

Does great work. and outside the range of Carfax!

So if you ever see a used 2021 white Sienna with a clean Carfax, buyer beware, lol

The bodyshop owner needs a new roof on his beach house. $4600 is nuts to fix that. New aftermarket bumper and fender are $140 each. Paint $200 each. You can replace them yourself.
Got links for these parts and this is OE quality parts? or are you just throwing out numbers here? (not like it matters, I've already accepted the 'buy out') just curious.

air bags didn't go off, but a broken radiator support was found once they removed the bumper.

Was the headlight assembly broken or cracked ?? Did this car has HIDs ?

I know HID headlight assembly and bulb replacement on my car is $1,200...

Any axle damage, shock/strut damage, and or tie rod damage or brake damage ??

Quarter panel damage on that side?? Door damage ??

That is a beautiful car... A great looking older G35.

$4600 seems extremely high unless there's a lot more unseen damage behind the broken front valence and behind that left front tire.... And the headlight was HID and needs replacement.

My car had a $3200 repair after hitting a old tree in the road on Rte 5.... Headlight assembly broken = $1200 and right side passenger mirror broken and a large dent on right rear quarter panel...

What do you plan on replacing it with?
Not sure yet, looked into a couple mustangs, maybe upgrade the model to a G37/Q60? I’m wanting to wait until the market cools off and see where things are at. It was a weekend warrior so, I have other cars to drive, so I’m in no rush to replace it. The car was a gem, and I’ll be on he lookout for the next.

Headlight assembly was to be replaced (aftermarket, had some deeper scratches since that was the point of contact) bumper and fender to be replaced, tire to be replaced, rim to be repaired, radiator support to be replaced, miscellaneous clips, side markers to be replaced, new alignment. All of that coupled with paint, and work time. These cars are getting harder to source insurance quality parts for and while the market value is coming back up on them, they still are 18 years old.
