Loose screw on visor bracket.

The screw on the plastic bracket holding the right end of the driver-side sun visor (to the headliner/roof) has become loose. No matter how often I tighten it, it loosens itself again after a few days, which makes the right end/corner of the visor-bracket rattle noisily.

What Can I do so that the screw will go in, and hold the bracket in place?
The screw is a phillips type.

the screw threads are probably an ultra-wide sheet-metal thread so loctite-type threadlock stuff won't work. i would suggest something like latex caulk in the hole, let it partially cure and then run the screw into that before it completely cures. It'll grab and keep it from working loose but won't keep it from being removed later if needed.

This assumes the "thread" in the sheet metal in the rood is still ok, ie, isn't stripped. Since you CAN tighten it, I think it is a safe assumption.

I've also used teflon tape to take up clearances in such situations. You can then just wrap as many turns as needed

Basically you're providing a better interference fit.

teflon tape is available in the plumbing section of any decent hardware store.

now that I think about it, I would prefer the teflon tape over caulk, it is easier, faster and much neater. try it first.

Latex caulk is probably in the paint department. Also and often called "Tub and Tile" caulk, this kind is easier to find and in a squeezable tube; ie,it doesn't need a caulk gun.

The simple way that works: Get a paper clip, un bend it. Put the wire in the hole, it will take up the slack. Start the screw, when it bites, trim off the excess wire as close as possible and run it home. Problem solved.

GOOP! If the other fixes don't work out, use goop in the hole and it will take a set and hold.
