Since I couldn't find PP 0W20 ANYWHERE (I don't think anybody else has much luck either), I decided to order it offline.

I bought (2), 6-qt cases from http://www.oil-store.com on Wednesday and it was delivered today... It shipped same day I ordered and had it the very next day. Impressive!

I just wanted to say if anybody was thinking about ordering from them that they are excellent to buy from!

Just wanted to pass on the information if anybody was looking for the 0W20 but was weary of ordering it online!

I looked at their PP and the 5W-30says that it is API SL and ILSAC GF3.

I don't know if they just haven't updated their site or they are selling old stuff.

dkryan,

The cost per quart goes down the more you buy. For example, to ship to Cleveland from PA (where the warehouse is), costs are:

# Of cases -- Cost per quart
1 .......... $6.27
2 .......... $5.68
3 .......... $5.52
4 .......... $5.41
5 .......... $5.34

I got mine for $5.68 shipped per quart, which isn't too bad considering I was paying a tad more for M1 at the store per quart. But I think it will be cheaper to buy in store as far as PP goes or YB Pennzoil unless your trying to find the 0W20 grade, which then you have no other choice since they don't seem to sell in stores!

The Oil-Store.com prices are HORRIBLE!!!

Once shipping is added, you'll pay more then full price for that oil. I'd stear clear of that rip-off joint!

Notice: This WAS about if you are looking for Pennzoil Plat. 0W20, which is extremely rare if possible at all to find in a store. Therefor, you have no choice but to buy it offline somewhere. I just wanted to let people know that this store is quick and priced pretty good considering the shipping charges.

But it IS expensive if you are looking for YB Pennzoil or other grades of synthetic you can find in the store. This is mainly if you are looking for the hard-to-find, 0W20.

What is wrong with his comment? He is telling the truth, I think that does add something. Why would anyone want to pay more then they have to?

I am considering buying some 0w-20 PP from them, factoring in not having to burn gas to chase some down the exact item in a brick and mortar store it might be better priced after all. Plus less CO2 in the air. Just my 2¢ worth. Sometimes it pays to think beyond the first dimension.

Do you have any idea of how resellers work? Stuff cost money for the store owner to buy. Wal-Mart happens to be selling PP for less than most Shell distributors can buy the stuff for. Factor in their actual freight cost, the price for the box, the fuel surcharges that the freight companies charge, etc. and that online store probably makes $0.50 per quart of oil.

I'm not trying to be rude, but that is hardly a "rip-off". I'd gladly pay $0.50 extra for the ability to buy a particular product or weight that is otherwise unavailable at local stores. Heck, I'd probably pay $2.00+ extra. That is why I buy my AMSOIL from a local race shop, even though I am a Preferred Customer and get much better pricing, the convenience and ability to drive 5 blocks away and pick it up when I want is worth the extra $3/qt.

Thanks for showing us the good deal on PP 0w-20. Maybe someone can send the store owner a link to become a site sponsor?

I agree. What's wrong with someone expressing their opinion? I think the prices are high myself. Is the vehicle spec'd for 0w-20?

Pennzoil Platinum 0w-20 just like there 5W-40 Euro formula is almost impossible to find except at oil-store.com. That being the case paying what they ask, which looks below list is not unreasonable IMO. Shipping costs on many items is a fact of life..Don't like them don't buy them.

The constant whinnying about a few dollars a qt on oil IMO is silly. All of you except Bill of Utah p i s s away more than that every day or so. Unless you buy oil at places like Kragen after rebate anyone can accuse you of paying too much..even the WalMart shoppers pay too much compared to the rebate oil. Where is the sniveling about that?

BTW has anyone really notived the price of all non sale oils at the vast majority of stores? You must not if you are complaining about certain prices. Those are the prices charged and paid by most people.

The fact is with that line of thought which is Bill of Utah's, there really is no need for much of this board or it's discussions. We would all buy and use the lowest price SM oil and the lowest price oil filters. Anything above that is a waste of money..which for 99% of people might well be true....

So unless you advocate that on a constant basis like Bill of Utah, it sounds like whinnying to me.

My comment was certainly intelligent, and thanks for pointing this out.

If one has the minimal intelligence to go to that site, and price out an order, any size order, one too will come to the conclusion that I have too. I realize the OP has "no other source" for the brand/weight he's looking for, but gush the shipping can be nearly as much as the oil!

I like making very helpful posts, and thanks for seeing the intelligence in mine ;-)

Guy, you missed the point. Sure shipping is a "fact of life" but does that mean one should get raped when buying online?

Nope!

I buy nearly everything online and the shipping costs are a huge consideration, and often I find I can get free or very cheap shipping.

And what you call "whining" is really just stating the facts. To suggest and give an opinion about that oil site is not a bad thing. Where is the tolarance?

If I were the OP, I would look hard and long for a better and cheaper source for the oil he requires. At those prices, there is NOTHING about that site worth complimenting, to be sure.

"OP has "no other source" for the brand/weight he's looking for, but gush the shipping can be nearly as much as the oil"

Who cares? If he wants to pay that for that particular oil then let him without the harping. I can guarentee you that I can look at your life, you spending habits and find plenty of areas where I think what you buy is a waste of money...but that is none of my business.

Let it go........

BTW Your comment of "Where is the tolarance"? is classic liberal fare. Where is YOUR tolerance? Oppseee

Tenderloin's post just spanked it in so many ways. I can sit here and blow profitable time worrying about $19/jug PP or $23/jug M1 etc. And then I'll go out tonite and make a quick decision on a side dish at a restaurant, or I'll stop tomorrow for an ice tea at one of my favorite ice tea watering holes, and all this brooding on a $4 difference for oil that will be in the crankcase for a year is just crazy (though I do it). I know guys who track every penny and have their finances locked down tight - perhaps for them all this price consciousness on oil makes sense. But the M1 will be in my Mazda 6 for about a year - so someone might freak that the 0w20 cost me close to $30 for five quarts, when I could've had a 5w20 for $20. So it's in my car for a year, it cost $10 extra, and I'm going to stop somewhere tomorrow during errands and pick me and my wife up an ice tea and diet coke (respectively) - and and it's gonna be $4 (our Saturday treat).

This stuff is in the same league as my former supervisor who'd drive across town for a small savings on adult beverages, and a close friend of mine who recently went 15 miles out of his way to save 5 cents/gal. at a gas station. Forrest for the woods type of thing.

Might just order me up some Amsoil next time.

Boy, this sure went south in a hurry. It's always good to hear about new things, or places to get something that's hard to find, or a special someone might be having, but really, do you really care what someone on the other side of the country pays for a quart of oil, a gallon of milk, a new 3-piece suit, a pair of shoes, or a gallon of gas, I sure don't. How a person earns or spends his or her money is none of my business. We live in a free society so to each his own.

I have to drive 100+ miles one way just for groceries. If I go to Pahrump, there is a NAPA and a Wal Mart but I give up the Trader Joe's coffee that I buy since coffee is one of the 9 essential food groups and I will not drink 'cough' folgers. If I go to Vegas for groceries, I have Wal Mart, NAPA's, AZ, Checker, Car Quest AND I can get the coffee I want. I choose, most of the time, to drive the extra 100 miles RT so I can get the proper coffee and truck stuff. I don't mail order since I pay cash for everything. What is more important, proper coffee and oil, or just oil.
