looking for a good windshield polish...

I bought a polishing kit from JC Whitney that uses cerium oxide abrasive and a felt pad that you mount on your drill. It's good for getting out light scratches, haze, and chemical etching. Rule of thumb - if your thumbnail can catch the scratch, it's too deep to be polished out. I too have a windshield pockmarked with rock chips. There's no way it'll get polished out.

Like Kestas I bought a polishing kit. Mine came from a company named Somma & Meca – they sell to the glass trade. Eastwood also sells a glass polishing kit.

I successfully removed deep scratched from the side glass of a collector car. Yes I could catch them with my fingernail -- and yes it took a long time 20 to 30 hours per side glass. I spent over a month at it off and on. Don't do it when you are tired, and you must have a lot of patience.

Rock chips in a windshield are not worth it unless the car is a collector car and the windshield codes are impossible to duplicate. For a driver car get a new windshield and pay someone to R&R it. The learning curve is too steep and expensive otherwise.
Just my two cents.

I tested a number of glass polishes a few years ago. The liquid polishes were fine for removing embedded road grime and surface crud but did very little to remove or reduce pitting and scratching. Most glass polishes are formulated to avoid damaging the glass.

I suggest using #0000 Super Fine steel wool when applying a glass polish. Good polishes are offered by Zaino, Duragloss, Detailers Pride (Autogeek), Einszett, Diamondite and a few others. They're very hard to find in stores as most of the major car wax mfrs do not offer a glass polish. Best thing to do is mail order.

griots garage has a polish set/kit... their stuff, while a bit pricey sometimes, seems to be of very high quality, and so depending upon product, the value is excellent... YMMV.
