Welcome for what? Useless high ISO, poor low light performance, and slow autofocus? I would look into one of the Panasonics recommended in the other thread I mentioned.

I vote for the Nikon CoolPix S8200 if you want a compact.

No such thing as a good camera in that price range. Physics doesn't compromise so you are forced to...

I'm a Nikon user in the dslr range but I've found canon pocket cams to be best.

I've heard good about some pannys and Fujisawa but have no first hand use.
