Looking at an Ariens ST28LE to get a jump start for winter as its usually cheaper to buy them now than to wait until winter. A guy has this for sale. Its 2.5 years old and only used 1 winter and a few misc times the other winter as we had little snow. He wants $750 for it. I can get it new for 999.99 with a 5 year warranty if I buy a brand new one. Is his asking price out of line? I'm no snow blower expert but with 1100sqft of drive way I would like a good one.

Yep, that is a $1000 unit brand-new. To me that's kind of a proud price given it's 3yrs old. $650 sounds a lot better given it's not yet snowblower season.

IMO that's not much of a deal.
In the fall I was in my local Sears in September. As I was walking out the store, The sales associate asks, "Are you looking for a snow blower? We have one heck of a deal here let me show you the snow blower on the ipad display."
He shows me what the snow blower looks like. Then says, they found a huge bunch of brand new three year old snowblowers in the warehouse that were never sold. They are clearing them out at a great price.
He gets on the register, punches in the SKU and it comes up for $379 before taxes. The newer models on the floor have some autosteer function and heated hand grips for $799. Since I had a single stage Ariens which works when it's a light snow, but isn't self propelled I jumped right on it.
Now that's what I call a deal! When I picked it up it was brand new with all the protective plastic all over it. I gased her up and she fired on the first pull.
Ariens makes a good machine, but I think you should offer him $500 first and maybe go up to $600 max. Prices of all that equipment have come down. I realize Ariens is American made, but is it worth that much of a premium when it's used?

Airens does make a good machine. Their lower priced line is Sno-Tek.
But new and a warranty do mean something. For all you know he ran it without oil for 5 minutes and then added oil and it runs fine now, but the engine was slightly damaged. If it was new, that would not have happened.

I picked up a 36" Airens last winter for $300, it was between 8 and 10 years old. Its a monster and starts the first time. A little Extend rust protective on some rusty spots and it will be in fine shape.
I think between $500 and $600 is a good price.

Yep my top dollar was $650 due to it being in great condition. But for any high I might as well just get new... He countered 750. I said I cant due that, being its out of season, only $1000 new with 5 year warranty, and almost 3 years old. We will see what he says.

If it was exceptionally clean, started on the first pull and idles smooth, maybe $700 tops. Better than a grand + tax.

A 5 year warranty is worth something. A used machine is used.

When he bought it, home depot was selling them for 1099.99. Even with a sale or coupon it was over $1000.
