Hillbastard, what's your criteria for ROI?

If you want to spend 400% more money (say for Amsoil or Mobil 1 EP) versus a bottle of ANY reasonable oil (Havoline, PZ, QS, Mobil C-5k, and on and on and on, but only get perhaps 1% better wear (if any at all), then by all means, go for it!

Apparently I can't convince you. Why don't you convince me, then. Why don't you run 5 UOA's, at 3k mile OCIs, with Mobil Clean 5000 5w-30. Then swith over to Mobil 1 5w-30 for 5 more UOA/OCI's. Then post your results here on BITOG. Tell me if you got 3x the protection for 3x the price.

The evidence is already in the UOA sub-section. Pull up 100 UOA for gas engines. Of those 100, pick out 40 that seem to be consistent and have run for around 5k miles. Look for both "dino" and "synthetic". Compare the wear metals and insolubles. If I can't convince you, maybe you can convince yourself.

I already know what the answer is.

I would like to see those results! Please post them when you have completed the test.

THANKS!

The car that threw the rod was a Chevy product and I believe the Caprice is a Chevrolet product.

Molecules of synthetic oil is much smaller than those of regular dino oil. There are more molecules in the same amount of oil compared to dino oil meaning that synthetic oil is much denser than dino oil. So, synthetic oil takes longer to warm up and even longer to radiate heat just like a piece of metal and wood under the summer sun. Metal is too hot to touch but wood is cool . It makes more sense to have an oil cooler if the oil is synthetic. You may think that synthetic is more durable under extreme heat, yes, oil itself is, but its viscosity improver(usually polymer)breaks down and becomes sludge. The original viscosity of synthetic oil is "0" compared to "100" of paraffin based oil. That's why synthetic oil's additives count for 70-80% compared to 10-20% of the dino oil. To me, oil with less additives is better when it comes to engine protection.
??????????????????

Now, now Steve we musn't question these things. Remember, virginoil said everyone has an opinion. We should just say "Amen" because we are lucky to have TokyoJoe sharing his knowledge with us.
